Updizzaatteee: Numbers Style

Shaoow.

For the sake of keeping the faith, we know we have a tendency to put out a release and then sort of slip into the shadows for a while, and hence this blog was put into effect. For those keeping tabs on things (or trying to) I figured I would post an update on what exactly the Greater Numbers have been up to.

Me and Qwang Wang (Tchungster) have been cooling it in Tally for the past few months as most of you know. Several of our projects have been put on hiatus, while at the same time several newer projects have been manifesting themselves. Scrasquatch (also Tchungster) has been hard at work developing beats for numerous endeavors including the upcoming beat tape titled “Scatterbrained”  which if all goes well should be out relatively soon. In addition to that, the third and possibly final installment in the Greater Numbers “Special Guest” EP Series, the Daniel Tammet EP, should be out by early 2011. Go listen to Thurl while you’re at it.

We, as always, couldnt be more excited to get these works out there and see how yall dig it. We guarantee yall will dig it, but we like to see the responses anyway.

In the meantime, myself has just released Come And Get Ya Medicine Pt. 1 for free download over on my bandcamp site. The first installment does feature beats exclusively from El-P’s latest “Weareallgoingtoburninhell megamixxx3“. Gotta love that guy. A second and conclusive installment will be finished and out for listening by mid December.

Nasty Nuggets is of course holding the 561 area code to the utmost extent, doing a good amount of shows with local greats Roots Shakedown, make sure to cop their debut album and go see them live if you can, they put on a damn chillin show. We will be heading back to the Ace for Thanksgiving, and god knows what will go down in that time span, we might just see the birth of a mixtape jumping all of our other efforts, time is tight and we usually try to make the best of it.

Aside from all that, we have a shiez load of other projects sitting in the wings, waiting to have light shone upon them. Sometime in the future maybe, just to bait the idea of it heres some of the project titles (all with at least 8 tracks written and waiting):

Gotta Give Credit

Now, generally, we in Greater Numbers dont really like to “have” to borrow blog posts from other, more well known sites in order to make our blog more accessible. This isn’t really a case of that either, well, at least not with that intention. But in all good real-recognize-realness, I do have to give it up to the hard working writers and collectors over at Hip Hop Is Read for literally compiling some of the illest and realest rap and hip hop mixtapes on the web.  Click the image below to download straight up.

Again, not to discredit our own efforts, but I’m not even sure where I could have started in order to gather up this much good shit at one time. This is just about their latest mixtape, but if you visit the site, you’ll find hours upon hours of some of the more well-known, non fakery based rap material I think is even retrievable minus the help of a search team and a few months of work.

If you’re like me, chances are you might be, you normally don’t spend all day focusing your aural efforts on one thing, even let alone one mixtape. Mixtapes are great, but they sort of force you into a vortex, a theme if you will, reminiscent of the infamous “break-up” tapes many people made back in the day in attempts to invoke sympathy. As is the theme here, though thankfully not as cheesy or sad, and hopefully tracks from The RZA, Wiz Khalifa and Aesop Rock aren’t making anyone cry in shame. HHIR.com has really done nothing but great work keeping the dream alive and making sure true hip hop hasn’t lost it’s place among listeners.

The internet is a muh-fucker, but at least we have a solid effort on the defense here. Good work guys, we salute you. Make sure to give them a constant check-up, as they dont fail to keep you in the loop. As for us, always check up daily to see what kind of craziness the Numbers are getting into.

The Groove Pile Volume 1

For the past few months, I had this idea to try my hand at a mega mix of sorts, or at least to see if I could easily link multiple old school jams together. The Result is this wonderful mushy pile of grooves, tentatively named The Groove Pile.

All sorts of great gems in there, from Led Zeppelin to Earth Wind and Fire. Something for everyone. Do expect a part 2 and 3 coming up within the next year when I can find a chance to get time off making other things (I know right)

Feedback is fun, makes me feel good, and makes you feel included. Also dont forget to check out the other Greater Numbers endeavors.

Calling All Brobrahs!!

Yes yes, The Greater Numbers family is looking to expand, extend our hands into the ocean of potential feel-gooders and think-alikers. This is a call to arms! We are most certainly looking to solidify the strength of our blog, as well as get some rounded insight from anyone looking to help manage and post interests of their own.

We talking bout building blocks yo.

CONTEST: The Big Letter R

Graphic Designers: if you have any interest in getting yourself out there in a no-risk contest, CLICK HERE. This year’s finest (in my opinion), RUSKO, is hosting a contest with the creative collaboration network Talent House to find the new logo Rusko will use for the entirety of 2011.

Your design being used by a very successful international musician isn’t all that this contest has to offer. There’s a couple thousand dollars at stake, or something. That’s how little I care about that side of it.

All he wants is a big, badass, letter R. Capital or lower-case is acceptable, i’m sure. Those are the only criteria.
